Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be sailing towards a straightforward win in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the net in the opening stages.

However, Marseille struck twice late to take a shock advantage. First, Mason Greenwood scored from the penalty spot, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the dying moments to force the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a 4-1 penalty win.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this competition for the twelfth time in the last 13 seasons.
