Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a exciting storyline featuring celestial beings, demons, and dark forces expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the third episode of Campaign 4 lie ahead.
The Soldiers Table Revealed
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the central cast to embark on their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team features Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), the fierce warrior (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).
The Reason for Division
Given 13 cast members, it was obvious from the beginning that keeping everyone at the same party would be unworkable.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Prelude, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Seekers.
What Defines the Combat Party
Per the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who prefer a classically intense fight-heavy story mode where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are best suited for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
First, the group has a clear idea where to proceed after a intense opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the hidden lair, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the powerful objects to sell off.
The traitor then settled his obligations and ran away to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, above the city, with Cyd close behind.
Character Drivers
Moreover, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city Dol-Makjar:
- Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, seeks vengeance.
- Kattigan knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty location.
- The warrior and The cleric, having resisted his house’s orders to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
- But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the group reach areas they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The fighter swore a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are wanted by the rulers that control the city for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind no longer safe:
- The agile adventurer and Kattigan are known criminals.
- The strong figure and The healer defied House Halovar and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This means them no alternative but to head to the northern region in pursuit of Casimir.
What’s Next?
From episode three’s post-show segment, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the participants to round up the Questers and Planners parties.
Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
